Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about microblading, laser treatments and aesthetics at BrowArt by Daniela Paolini, Kensington, London.

About Microblading

What is microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment that uses a fine, handheld blade to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin in precise, hair-like strokes. The result is natural-looking, fuller brows that are custom-designed to complement your facial features. Unlike a tattoo, microblading sits closer to the surface of the skin, which means the results are beautifully natural — and gradually fade over time rather than turning blue or green the way old-style permanent makeup can.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading typically lasts between 12 and 18 months. How long yours lasts depends on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow the aftercare routine. Oily skin tends to fade faster, while drier skin retains pigment longer. Sun exposure and certain skincare products (particularly those containing retinol or acids) can also accelerate fading. A touch-up session 4–6 weeks after your initial treatment is recommended to perfect the shape and colour and extend the life of your results.

Is microblading painful?

Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure begins, so the sensation is usually mild — most people describe it as a light scratching feeling. Any tenderness afterwards is minimal and typically subsides within a day or two. If you're particularly sensitive, let Daniela know during your consultation and extra care will be taken to keep you comfortable throughout.

Who is microblading suitable for?

Microblading is suitable for most adults who want to enhance, reshape, or reconstruct their eyebrows. It's particularly popular with people who have sparse, thin, uneven, or over-plucked brows, as well as those experiencing hair thinning or loss. It's also a fantastic option for anyone who spends time drawing on their brows each morning and wants to simplify their routine. A free 15-minute consultation is available to assess whether it's right for your skin type, health history, and lifestyle.

Microblading is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain skin conditions such as active eczema or psoriasis in the brow area, are currently undergoing chemotherapy, or are taking blood-thinning medications. Daniela will go through your full medical history at the consultation to confirm suitability.

What is the difference between microblading and nanoblading?

Both techniques create beautiful, natural-looking semi-permanent eyebrows — the difference is in the tool and the precision of the result.

Microblading uses a manual blade made up of several tiny needles arranged in a row to create hair strokes. Nanoblading uses a single ultra-fine nano needle, which allows for even more delicate, finer strokes and is particularly well suited to sensitive skin or clients who want the most natural possible finish.

At BrowArt, nanoblading is the premium option at £580 (versus £380 for microblading) and takes around 3 hours. If you're unsure which is right for you, the free consultation is the ideal time to discuss it.

How much does microblading cost in London?

At BrowArt by Daniela Paolini in Kensington, brow microblading is £380 for a full treatment (2.5 hours). Nanoblading is £580 (3 hours). A touch-up within 30 days costs £100. A free 15-minute consultation is available for new clients, with no obligation to book.

A £50 deposit is required to secure your appointment. This is fully refundable if you cancel more than 24 hours in advance.

How do I prepare for my microblading appointment?

To get the best possible result, please follow these steps before your appointment:

Avoid retinol, vitamin A, AHA or BHA acids, and exfoliating skincare products for at least one week before your treatment. Don't use Botox or fillers in the brow area within two weeks of your appointment. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand, as it can thin the blood and affect how the pigment takes. Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup. Don't have your brows waxed, threaded, or tinted within a week of your appointment.

If you have any health concerns, please let Daniela know in advance.

What happens during a microblading session?

Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation to discuss your desired shape, colour, and style. Daniela uses the golden ratio (1:1.618) — a mathematical proportion found in nature — to design brows that are perfectly balanced and in harmony with your facial features.

Once you're happy with the design, a topical numbing cream is applied. Daniela then works with precision to create each individual hair stroke, building up natural-looking fullness and shape. The session takes approximately 2.5 hours in total. Afterwards, you'll be given full written aftercare instructions.

Aftercare & Healing

How long does microblading take to heal?

Allow 7–10 days for the surface skin to heal. During this time it's completely normal for the brows to look bold, patchy, or even slightly uneven — this is part of the process. The colour will initially appear up to 40% darker and the brows may seem thicker than expected. Don't be alarmed: as the skin heals and the pigment settles, the brows soften, lighten and reveal their true shape. It takes around 4 weeks for the final result to fully emerge.

What should I avoid after microblading?

For the first 7 days: keep the brow area dry and clean. Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and heavy exercise. Don't apply makeup, creams, or skincare to the brow area (other than the aftercare cream provided). Don't pick, scratch, or peel the healing skin — this can pull out pigment and cause patchy results.

For the following 30 days: avoid direct sun exposure on the brows, sunbeds, and light therapies. Avoid chemical peels, fruit acids, microdermabrasion, and any skincare products containing retinol or regeneration factors in the brow area. Once fully healed, always apply SPF to the brows to prevent fading.

Do I need a touch-up after my initial microblading treatment?

Yes. A touch-up 4–6 weeks after your initial session is a standard part of the microblading process and is strongly recommended. No matter how carefully the initial treatment is performed, everyone's skin heals differently — some areas may absorb pigment differently, and the touch-up is your opportunity to perfect the shape, fill any gaps, and ensure a long-lasting result.

At BrowArt, a retouch within 30 days is available for £100.

Laser Treatments

What laser treatments are available at BrowArt?

BrowArt offers four laser treatments: laser brow tattoo removal, laser body tattoo removal, laser carbon peeling (Hollywood Peel), and laser sun-spot removal for pigmentation. All laser treatments are performed personally by Daniela, who holds a Level 4 Laser Beautician licence from Phi Academy.

Can laser remove my old permanent eyebrow tattoo?

Yes — and this is one of the most requested treatments at BrowArt. Laser brow tattoo removal uses targeted laser energy to break down the ink particles in the skin, allowing the body to naturally eliminate them over time. It is the most effective method for removing old, discoloured, or unwanted permanent eyebrow makeup, including microblading that has healed poorly or changed colour. Sessions take 30 minutes and cost £120.

How many sessions does laser tattoo removal take?

It varies depending on the tattoo's size, ink colour, depth, and your skin type. Brow tattoo removal typically requires between 3 and 6 sessions. Body tattoos usually need more — anywhere from 4 to 10 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow the skin to recover and the body to process the broken-down ink. A consultation is the best way to get a realistic estimate for your specific case.

What is a Laser Carbon Peel (Hollywood Peel)?

A Laser Carbon Peel — also known as the Hollywood Peel — is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. A thin layer of liquid carbon is applied to the skin, which bonds to dead skin cells, excess oil, and impurities deep in the pores. A laser is then passed over the skin, which vaporises the carbon along with everything it has absorbed. The result is deeply cleansed pores, reduced blackheads, a more even skin tone, and a noticeable radiant glow — all with no downtime. Sessions take 1 hour and cost £150. It is suitable for all skin types and is particularly effective for oily skin, mild acne, and dull or uneven complexions.

What is laser sun-spot removal?

Laser sun-spot removal targets areas of pigmentation caused by sun damage, ageing, or hormonal changes. The laser breaks down the excess melanin in the affected skin cells, causing the pigmented area to gradually fade. It is a gentle, precise treatment with no downtime, suitable for age spots, sun damage, and patches of uneven skin tone on the face, hands, or décolletage. Sessions take 45 minutes and cost £150.

EM Body Sculpting

What is EM Body Sculpting and how does it work?

EM Body Sculpting uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate powerful muscle contractions — far more than you could achieve through voluntary exercise. Each 30-minute session induces thousands of muscle contractions, which burn fat and build muscle simultaneously. It is a non-invasive, no-downtime treatment that is particularly effective for toning the abdomen, arms, thighs, and buttocks. Sessions cost £150.

Is EM Body Sculpting suitable for everyone?

EM Body Sculpting is suitable for healthy adults looking to improve muscle definition and reduce localised fat. It is not suitable for people with metal implants, pacemakers, or electronic medical devices. A brief health consultation is conducted before your first session to confirm suitability.
